Why Taraba 2020 Budget is Delayed

Officials of Taraba State government has given reason why the budget of the state is yet to be passed for implementation.

Taraba Governor Darius Ishaku has presented a budget estimate of N213.6 billion to the House of Assembly for approval mid December last year.

Although rumored that the budget is being delayed because the governor is away abroad on vacation, Taraba Truth and Facts Newspaper gathered that the proposed budget is still undergoing legislative scrutiny.

The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly Hon Joseph Alkinjo said the governor vacation has not slow down the wheel of governance in the state.
”It’s not true that the budget could not be passed because the Governor travelled. To start with, the governor is entitle to his vacation,” the Speaker told our reporter.

Alkinjo added that : ”the budget just like any bill has staged of passage, the governor have comply with the provisions of the constitution by laying the budget before the house and that becomes the document of the house until such a time that the house complete action and pass the bill into law then it will return to the governor for his assent.

”The budget which is bill will be considered for second reading where the general principle will be discussed and debated afterward it will be committed to the finance and appropriation committee for it to schedule for public hearing otherwise called budget defense where all MDAs and other government Agencies will appear before there various committees to defend and present their positions the it will be reported to the whole house for deliberation before the third reading will be taking. which is the passage of the money bill into law.
Also Special Adviser media to the Taraba State Governor, Bala Dan Abu said the law provides the state to spend pending the passage of the budget.
”Its not an unusual practice, there is always an allowance for government activities to go on while the budget is been considered, so its not out of place for the state to begin the new year without its budget passed.”
